Dentists can Detect Early Signs of Eating Disorders

The ADA News (11/1 Garvin) has reported that dentists are in “a unique position” to spot early signs of eating disorders.  Dr. Richard Gesker the chief dental officer at Mary’s Center, recently spoke on behalf of the ADA about how stains to tooth enamel and receding gums may be early signs a patient has an eating disorder.  Additional signs may include dry mouth, reduced salivary secretions, and gland enlargement.

MouthHealthy.org provides additional information on how eating disorders may affect oral health.
