Epinephrine Pens have been proven to effectively treat severe allergic reactions. Recently a study reported in Reuters (6/13, Rapaport) stated that EpiPens may still be potent months after the expiration date. The cost of refills can be very expensive. Researchers examined “the contents of 46 different autoinjectors to see how much epinephrine remained at least two years after their labeled expiration date.” They saw that at two-years post expiration, 80% of the devices still retained 90% or more of the epinephrine, indicating they were still effective under the FDA rules.” The findings were published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice.
